Three alleged Russian spies arrested after UK security investigation

Three Bulgarian nationals, suspected of working as spies for Russia, have been arrested and charged in a major UK national security investigation..

The defendants face charges related to possession of false identity documents, as first reported by the BBC.

The investigation, carried out by counter-terrorism detectives from the Metropolitan Police, has shed light on an alleged spy network that operates in the country, according to the news channel.

The trio, identified as Orlin Roussev, Bizer Dzhambazov and Katrin Ivanovaall Bulgarian citizens, were arrested in February and have been in pretrial detention ever since.

They are accused of possessing false identity documents, including passports and identity cards, with the intention of using them for illicit purposes.

The suspects are believed to have been operating as agents of the Russian security services.raising concerns about possible espionage activities carried out on British soil.

The alleged documents were linked to several countries, including the United Kingdom, Bulgaria, France, Italy, Spain, Croatia, Slovenia, Greece and the Czech Republic.

Orlin Roussev, 45, a resident of Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, has a history of business partnerships with Russia and previously served as an adviser to the Bulgarian Ministry of Energy.

Bizer Dzhambazov, 41, and Katrin Ivanova, 31, were known to live in Harrow, north-west London, and were involved in a variety of activities, including community services for Bulgarian residents and serving on election commissions.

The defendants, who have lived in the UK for several years, face charges under the Identity Documents Act.

They are scheduled to appear at London’s Old Bailey for trial in January, where they will have the opportunity to address the charges against them.
