Surveillance video allowed Miami-Dade County police to identify and arrest on Tuesday three of the four people who participated in a simulated accident between two carsto commit fraud.

The authorities arrested Lyre Cruz40 years old, Frank Marques33, and Roman Alvarez60, and are working to identify and arrest their accomplices, reported Local 10.

According to the police report, surveillance video shows three people blatantly lying after an alleged collision that occurred this Monday between two vehicles in the University Park area, southwest of the city of Miami.

The alleged accident occurred shortly before 10:15 p.m., at Southwest 108 Avenue and 38 Street, and involved a 2019 Chevy Tahoe, owned by Márques, and a 2022 GMC Sierra Denali belonging to Cruz.

The evidence shows that Márques and Álvarez, both passengers of the Tahoe, got out, while Cruz parked the Sierra Denali at the intersection and got out of the car.

Video showed the unidentified driver of the Tahoe crashed into the unoccupied Sierra, flipping it onto its side, police reported.

After the alleged collision, Márques called 911 to say he was driving east on 38th Street when he ran a stop sign and crashed.

For his part, Cruz reported that he was in the Sierra Denali traveling south on 108th Avenue at the time the Tahoe hit him.

At first, Álvarez said he was a passenger in the Sierra Denali, and corroborated the reports of Cruz and Márques, however the police reported that he confessed after being confronted with the evidence.

The intention of the simulated accident was to have the necessary documentation to cheat to the insurance, reported one of the detectives.

The three detainees face charges of fraud to insurance for a staged accident, which is a second-degree felony, and falsely reporting a crime to law enforcement authorities, a first-degree misdemeanor.

In recent times, a growing number of Cubans have been involved in similar events, to collect insurance money and medical therapies.

The incident occurred last October when the woman removed the airbag manually and broke it with a knife, after it did not open due to the impact of the crash.
