CDU chairman Merz supports the delivery of heavy battle tanks to Ukraine. Merz told the dpa: “Supporting Ukraine with armored personnel carriers and battle tanks would not prolong this war, it would shorten it.” Tino Chrupalla, federal spokesman for the Alternative for Germany, on this:
“The more heavy weapons NATO and its partners deliver to the war zone, the longer it takes for young soldiers to die pointlessly. I therefore welcome the initiative by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba to hold a peace summit led by the United Nations. A diplomatic solution to the conflict will be discussed not spoken enough. I demand more commitment to peace from the federal government and also from opposition leader Merz.”
