Tom Hanks is among the favorites for the 2023 Razzie Awards, an awards show that annually “rewards” the worst in Hollywood.

The Razzie Awards, which award trophies each year to the worst Hollywood has produced, unveiled the 2023 nominees on Monday. If Blonde, a film by Andrew Dominik freely inspired by the life of Marilyn Monroe, wins as the big favorite with eight nominations, Tom Hanks has the disgrace of appearing in no less than three categories.

The actor was shortlisted by the organizers of these satirical trophies in the categories Worst Actor (for his role as Gepetto in the Disney remake of Pinocchio), Worst Supporting Actor (for his role as manager of Elvis Presley in the biopic Elvis), and worst screen couple (duet with “his latex-laden face and his ridiculous accent”), always for Elvis.

“The most widely derided performance of the year”

According to a statement from the organizers of the Razzies, in the film Elvis, Tom Hanks reportedly delivered the “most widely derided performance of 2022”. WhileElvis and actor Austin Butler have been widely acclaimed (the latter recently won the Golden Globe for Best Actor for this role), Tom Hanks has drawn the wrath of critics.

Pinocchio by Disney is also among the five films in the running for the Razzie of the “worst film” alongside “Blonde”.

The “Golden Raspberry Awards”, the official name of the Razzies, were invented in a Los Angeles living room in 1981 by former film students and Hollywood professionals.

The Razzies are usually announced the day before the Academy Awards. The lucky winners receive a trophy representing a raspberry the size of a golf ball placed on a reel of Super 8 film.
