The Spider-Man star admits to being exhausted.
Tomorrow will be released on AppleTV+ the series The Crowded Roomin which Tom Holland plays a man who really existed: Danny Sullivan. Suspected of having participated in a shooting in New York in 1979, he was arrested and questioned at length by a seasoned investigator (played by Amanda Seyfried). The show then alternates between their dialogue scenes and flashbacks of Sullivan’s life, explaining how he became a criminal.
An experience that deeply upset the 27-year-old actor, who reveals to Extra need to take a break. He is considering a one-year hiatus from his acting career, so much this series has “broken.”
“It was a tough shoot, that’s for sure, he says. We explore in this story emotions that I have not experienced personally. And on top of that, I’m also the show’s producer, so I had to deal with day-to-day issues, the kind of issues that happen on any set, but that added more pressure. I loved learning about this new job as a producer, though.
I’m not afraid to work hard. On the contrary, I grew up with the idea that to work hard is to do a good job. Still, this series broke me. There was even a time when I needed a break so badly that I disappeared for a week to go to Mexico to rest on the beach. There, I’m going to take a year off, and that’s the direct result of the difficulties encountered on this series. I can’t wait to see how it will be received. I have the impression that all this work will not have been in vain.”
The Crowded Room helped Tom Holland deal with his mental health issues
Last month is Entertainment Weekly that Tom Holland talked about how playing such a troubled character impacted him personally : “I recognized myself in this character. I saw bits of my personal life in him. I remember having cracked at home because of that. I said to myself: ‘I have to shave my head to get rid of him.’ Except we were in the middle of filming, I couldn’t do that… It’s really a unique experience, I had never done that before.”
Danny Sullivan suffering from addictions, Holland specifies that he himself has been completely sober for a year and four months. He adds that the filming of The Crowded Room opened her eyes to mental health issues:“Learning so much about it, and understanding the power it has on our lives, discussing Danny’s suffering with psychiatrists… All of this information has helped me in my own life. Now , I recognize certain signs capable of putting me in a state of stress.” He then cites as an example the important place taken by social networks in our lives.
