Tomb Raider will come back in force in the next few years. In addition to a new game, the license announces a brand new project.
License tomb Raider talk about her again. But this time it’s not about video games. While the franchise is soon coming to PowerWash Simulator and a new Tomb Raider is in the works at Crystal Dynamics, we learned today that Lara Croft will return in a live action series… at Amazon Prime!
The Tomb Raider series written by a talented screenwriter
After the announcement of the series god of war or the recovery of the broadcast of The Last of Uswhich is a hit and will be entitled to its second season, Amazon continues to capitalize on video game licenses.
While Netflix wanted to have its own animated series tomb Raider a few years ago, Amazon Prime Video finally got the right to a live action adaptation.
For the moment, nothing is known about the cast. We still don’t know who will be chosen to take on the role of the beautiful Englishwoman in this brand new series tomb Raiderbut we learn however that it is an actress and screenwriter of great talent who will write the screenplay for the series.
The main director is none other than Phoebe Waller-Bridge, praised many times by her peers. The latter was even rewarded with an Emmy Award for her series flea bag on Amazon Prime. If Waller-Bridge will not play in this new adaptation of the adventures of Miss Croft, she will nevertheless take care of all the scriptwriting part.
The series is still in its infancy. But the HollywoodReporter tells us that the show has just entered preliminary production.
Amazon’s series comes at a good time as film projects with Alicia Vikander have all been cancelled. Amazon had indeed cleaned up when it acquired MGM, the former rights holder.
For now, the information is very thin and we do not yet know where this new adaptation will lead us. The series could for example opt for the old Lara. The femme fatale and sure of herself who has already appeared in the cinema, in the 2000s, in two films where she was played by Angelina Jolie. Or on the contrary, choose the young Lara from the reboot launched in 2013, which we were able to discover on our big screens in the guise of Alicia Vikander.
Maybe she’ll even give us her own take on Lara Croft. But we will have to wait for more information to know for sure.
However, the HollywoodReporter tells us that Amazon would be putting the package with this new adaptation. A project as big as its series The Lord of the Rings and as crazy as the MCU. Amazon would indeed like to make new films tomb Raider interconnected with the series and even link its plots with the next Crystal Dynamics games, just that. A huge, connected and cross-media universe. The Tomb Raider franchise could therefore create a surprise in the years to come.
