A tourist who suffered a serious injury to her ankle, while she was in the area of the Retezat peak, was transported by helicopter from the mountain to the Petroşani Hospital, the Salvamont Hunedoara County Public Service informed on Sunday, which specified that the woman had not equipped herself appropriately for a route of this kind, wearing canvas espadrilles.

The operation to rescue the victim took place on Saturday afternoon and lasted about two hours, due to the damaged area, a helicopter was requested to pick up the tourist, reports Agerpres. After she was given first aid at the scene of the accident, the woman was picked up with the help of a mountain rescuer and transported to the hospital.
“The action took place on the ‘red triangle’ route, about 30 minutes below the Retezat peak. The person suffered a severe trauma to one of the lower limbs, without the possibility of movement. Inadequately equipped – shod with canvas shoes. She was immobilized and transported to the hospital in Petroşani”, stated the head of Salvamont Hunedoara, Ovidiu Bodean.
The mountain rescuers draw the attention of tourists to the way of equipment in the mountain area, part of the accidents being determined by improper clothing or footwear.
