The winter season is increasingly felt in Algeria with the return of rain and snow. Moreover, the National Office of Meteorology (ONM) has issued several special weather bulletins (BMS) warning of the persistence of rains and snowfalls in different regions of the north of the country. What is the weather forecast for this Thursday, February 9, 2023?

For this Thursday, Weather Algeria has forecast “a clear to slightly cloudy sky in the western regions of the country”. And “a cloudy sky with rain showers, sometimes stormy, with the probability of hail in places in the center and east”.

In addition, the ONM weather forecast also indicated that “a clear to partly cloudy sky, often becoming cloudy to locally cloudy from the Algerian-Malian border towards the Tindouf region”, will mark the Saharan regions.

Regarding the maximum temperatures forecast today, Météo Algérie has indicated that they will vary between 10°C and 17°C in the coastal regions, between 07°C and 16°C in the interior regions. And between 14°C and 33°C in the Saharan regions. With 07°C in Tebessa, 08°C in Batna, 09°C in Bouira and 10°C in El Tarf. But also, 11°C in Béjaia and Annaba, 12°C in Tipaza, 13°C in Naama, 14°C in Mascara, 17°C in Tlemcen. 18°C in Illizi and Béchar, and finally, 20°C in Ouargla.

BMS – Weather Algeria: rain and snow alert this Thursday, February 9

In addition, the ONM services have issued three special weather bulletins to warn of the rain showers and snowfalls that will affect the north of the country today.

In a level 2 vigilance alert, Météo Algérie placed the wilayas of Blida, Algiers, Boumerdès, Tizi Ouzou, Bejaïa, Jijel, Skikda, Annaba and El Tarf on orange vigilance. Noting that these wilayas will experience “rains sometimes in the form of stormy showers, locally accompanied by hailstorms, with gusts of wind”.

According to the same source, the estimated rainfall amounts will vary between 20 and 40 mm, which can reach or exceed locally 50 mm, and this, during the period of validity of this alert which will extend until Friday, February 10, 2023, at 06:00.

In addition, the WHO has also warned against the return of snowfall from this Thursday on the reliefs reaching or exceeding 900 meters in altitude, which can locally reach lower altitudes exceeding 800 meters.

Thus, the alert concerns the wilayas of Boumerdès, Tizi-Ouzou, Bejaïa, Jijel, Bouira, Bordj Bou Arreridj, Sétif, Batna, Khenchela, Tébessa and Oum el Bouaghi. Where the thickness of the snow will reach between 10 and 15 cm, and this, from this February 9 at 06:00 until Friday at 12:00.

According to Météo Algérie, the snowfall will also affect the wilayas of Blida, Médéa, Skikda, Mila, Constantine and Guelma. In these regions, the thickness of the snow forecast is estimated between 05 and 10 cm during the period of validity of the BMS which extends from this Thursday at 3:00 p.m. until Friday at 12:00 p.m.
