The death toll from the violent earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria rose this Thursday to more than 16,000as rescuers run for survivors among the rubble in freezing weather.

Authorities and doctors indicated that 12,873 people died in Turkey and 3,162 in Syriaafter the earthquake of magnitude 7.8 on Monday, bringing the total balance to 16,035 confirmed deaths.

The rescue teams Turkey managed to rescue six people during the early hours of Thursday, including three children, about 68 hours after being buried under the rubble of a destroyed building in the city of kirijan after the earthquakes registered on Monday in the south of the country, near the border with Syria.
