In Bettmar, Lower Saxony, a 55-year-old is said to have killed an elderly woman and himself. As the police in Salzgitter announced on Tuesday, they initially determined a car accident.
A car went off the road and ended up in a field. The body of the man was found inside with injuries unrelated to the accident. There is also said to have been a fire in the car.
The police later found the body of an 83-year-old woman in a residential building, which showed signs of massive violence. There is said to have been a fire here too. Officials assumed that the man deliberately killed the woman and then committed suicide.
The dead were apparently related to each other, according to police. A coroner was hired to determine the cause of death. According to the investigators, the background was initially unclear and the investigation was ongoing. (AFP)
