The history of the rustic Charlottenburg pub on Richard-Wagner-Platz goes back to 1919. At that time, the chef Max Wendel founded the restaurant, his son Klaus later continued it. Then different tenants followed. The last landlord Rüdiger Weidemann had to stop operations after a fire that broke out in the kitchen in October 2021. Now the Tagesspiegel has learned that there will be no reopening.

The landlord and descendant of the founder, Dieter Wendel, who lives in the same building, has since given up the innkeeper for economic and health reasons. A “driving school with a café” is expected to move into the orphaned rooms next April.

The pub has served as a film set a number of times. Celebrities such as actress Brigitte Mira, US entertainer Joan Rivers and then US Ambassador Daniel Coats also used to sign the guest book. There were twelve types of draft beer, various schnapps and homemade Berlin specialties such as minced meat, fried potatoes, meatballs and pork head aspic. For example, what it used to look like there Photos in the Berlin gastro blog “Full and Happy”.
