Tragedy in Havana: An entire family of seven people dies after the fire at their home in Centro Habana

According to the Diario de Cuba website, a family made up of seven people died as a preliminary consequence of a fire in electric mopedsproduced in Calle Perseverancia 159, between Ánimas and Virtudes, Centro Habana, published the official website Cubadebate.

Forces of the Ministry of the Interior, including the Police and the Cuban Fire Department with teams from the municipalities of Old Havana, Cerro, Plaza de la Revolución and Regla, in addition to the Rescue and Rescue Detachment, acted to put out the fire, according to the official media report.

In addition to government authorities and the Communist Party of the capital, Division General Ramón Pardo Guerra, head of the National Civil Defense General Staff, attended the incident.

According to the information, published in the Portal del Ciudadano de La Habana, investigations continue to determine the causes of the fire.

The official Facebook page of Cuban Firefighters shared images of the actions of their forces to extinguish the fire, as well as a message of condolences to the relatives of the fatalities.

The fires caused by electric motorcycles in Cuba have been increasing in recent years, due to poor handling of the load of these vehicles.

Until October 2020, the Cuban Fire Department reported an average of two electric motorcycle fires per day, most of them in Havanasaid an official of that entity in the state Television Newscast.

“Since 2017, fires have been manifested in mopeds or electric motorcycles. In 2019 there were 221 fires and up to October 2020 a total of 485 were reported,” indicates a state television report from May 2020.

Until now, the Cuban authorities have not made public the figures for this type of fire in the last two years.
