CDU application for bicycle street rejected. The CDU submitted seven applications for cycle streets last year. Seven of these have been approved but not yet implemented. Things are set to continue in the new year: “Traffic calming through a cycle lane from Roedernstrasse to Suermondtstrasse would increase the safety of many children riding bicycles and still enable residents to reach their destinations in the neighborhood,” says Frank Teichert, traffic policy spokesman for the CDU -Fraction.

But the application was rejected by both the transport committee and the district assembly (BVV). Reason: “The proposed road layout does not represent a sensible route through the Alt-Hohenschönhausen and has no practical connection function.”

On cycle streets, cyclists have priority, can use the entire side of the road and are therefore not tied to narrow cycle paths. “The CDU parliamentary group continues to work for road safety for all road users,” said Teichert. The aim is to reduce unnecessary through traffic in residential areas, which benefits residents.
