The “Dream Ship” at Christmas on December 26th on ZDF is bizarre and problematic at the same time. Various difficulties come up in the pre-produced episode.
Munich – A tradition at Christmas: The “Dream Ship” sets sail on ZDF again in the direction of not-too-unknown shores. Still, the popular show seems to be getting into troubled waters this time around. A problematic supporting actor takes care of that. Because the pre-produced episode was removed from the program in 2021 and could now make waves.

Even if the sea seems more or less calm on the way to the Maldives, things are really happening on board the dream ship. Because a motley patchwork family of the actors Marek Erhardt and Tina Ruland, Jan Sosniok, Patricia Meeden, Emilia Djalili and Leander Pütz as well as Reiner Schöne and Gaby Dohm serves as the core of the edition in the popular ZDF long-running hit. Of course, there are mistakes and confusion again – and in the end everything is the same again in the Christmas episode of “Dream Ship”: peace, joy, Christmas cake. Or rather cookies.
Even if there is suddenly a topic in the room or rather in the feathers that is otherwise rather excluded in the “dream ship”: erection problems, which unexpectedly throw a spanner in the works when spicing up the rusty love life. “You’re 50, since…” – this can happen, the sentence remains unspoken when the hot night of love does not lead to the hoped-for goal. Erection problems on the luxury steamer? This kind of realism is rarely seen on board the “Dream Ship”.

However, opinions differ on the tricky Christmas episode of “Traumschiff” for a completely different reason. No, Florian Silbereisen’s acting performance as Captain Max Prager or the violin skills of fiddle luminary David Garrett have nothing to do with it. Instead, the music plays somewhere else on the dream ship, not in the galley but in the kitchen. There is a cook there, played by Luke Mockridge, who works together with Wayne Carpendale’s brother in the hotel where Captain Prager invites his closest crew members to the Christmas feast.
It’s not at all about the scene or Mockridge’s acting talent, but rather about the circumstances why the episode of “Dream Ship” was not broadcast in 2021. After all, it was produced there. But at that time, ZDF did not broadcast because Mockridge was accused of being exposed to social media. The comedian also reported on the display of an ex-partner who perceived a night together as rape. Mockridge rejected the allegations and the Cologne public prosecutor later discontinued the proceedings.

At the end, as at the beginning of the “Traumschiff” episode, the question arises: “Why are we doing this to ourselves?” The answer: “Because it’s Christmas”, is not long in coming. It is a well-known fact that one does not break with tradition. Especially not on the holidays.
