This Thursday, June 29, a jury in Houston, Texas determined that Travis Scott will not face criminal charges for the tragedy of the Astroworld 2021 festival. The resolution of the authorities was announced via the Houston Chroniclethus dismissing the criminal charges against the artist and five other people, including Live Nation director Brent Silberstein.
“The district attorney’s decision confirms what we have always known: that Travis Scott is not responsible for the AstroWorld tragedy… Travis Scott has been inaccurately and incorrectly singled outdespite stopping the show three times and being unaware of events as they unfolded.”said the rapper’s attorney, Kent Schaffer, speaking to Variety.
District Attorney Kim Ogg said that no individual was criminally responsible for the situation. Another of the defense arguments is that Scott never urged attendees to do anything to get people hurt.
Not everything is closed in the case of Travis Scott and Astroworld
While the Houston jury found that Travis Scott will not face charges in the Astroworld tragedy, this does not mean that the artist is exempt from other legal processes.
Beyond the closure of this process, the rapper and festival organizers are still facing various civil lawsuits ranging from wrongful death, injury and more. Scott’s legal representation, along with the others involved, has asked that these accusations be dismissed.
“Now that this chapter is closed, we hope that the government’s efforts will focus on what is most important: prevent future heartbreaking tragedies like Astroworld from happening again.”added Travis’s lawyer in his statement to Variety about the process completed in the Texas jury this Thursday, June 29.
