Tribute to Celia Cruz is being prepared in Cuba, where she remains officially banned

MIAMI.- On the occasion of the 21st anniversary of the physical departure of Celia Cruzwhich will be fulfilled this July 16, the group Nsila Cheche prepares a tribute to The Guarachera of the World in Havana.

According to information published by journalist Michel Hernández, the tribute will take place on July 4 at the Buena Vista Club cultural center. Also, other artists from the island who have died in that month will be remembered.

“In Cuba, a spiritual cajon will be dedicated to Celia Cruz. Next July 4, the folklore group, spiritual dance musician Nsila Cheche, will do so. The group will celebrate this fact without the intervention of any other type of resources other than those of their members, as I know through musicians in the group,” Hernndez reported on Facebook.

“In addition, other figures of Cuban music who died during the month of July will be remembered, such as Adolfo Guzmán, Isaac Nicola, José Manuel Aniceto, El Dany, Sindo Garay, Compay Segundo, Pupy Pedroso, Elio Reve, among others,” added the journalist.

Transcendence of Celia Cruz

According to the beliefs of Nsila Cheche, this fact is important, since it pays tribute to the spirits of two artists.

“They are figures of Cuban music who are no longer with us physically, but they are spiritually,” the group declared to Hernández.

In that sense, Michel explained in the publication the importance of religious activity for Celia Cruz, when it has been censored by the dictatorship in the State media.

“We all know what it means to carry out a religious activity of this kind in Cuba for Celia Cruz, who has been historically censored for her political position and whose music is not broadcast on state media. It is, at the very least, a remarkable fact that Cuban musicians turn to their forgotten symbols and show them the respect they deserve,” the journalist explained.

“The cajon performance will be at the Buena Vista Club cultural center. Family and friends of the artists are invited and will be remembered, their music will be heard and images of their history, which is ours, will be displayed,” concluded Michel Hernández.

Born on October 21, 1925 in Havana, Celia Caridad Cruz y Alfonso, better known as Celia Cruz, is considered the most idolized Cuban artist in history.

“It fills me with emotion that Celia continues to impact so many lives with her music, her smile and her divine grace. She didn’t need social media or anything, that’s why people continue to honor her,” Omer Pardillo told DIARIO LAS AMRICAS a month ago. Cid, former manager of Celia Cruz and universal executor of her legacy.
