Trump details his assassination attempt: 'It's too painful to tell'

The former president of the United States Donald Trump He recounted for the first and only time how the incident occurred attempted murder he suffered last Saturday during a rally in Pennsylvania.

At the close of the Republican National Convention, after being declared the Republican Party’s presidential candidate, Trump began his speech by thanking the American people for their love and support after the attack, and recalled that “the assassin’s bullet was a quarter of an inch away from taking my life.”

“A lot of people have asked me what happened… and so, I’m going to tell them what happened, and they’ll never hear from me again, because it’s actually too painful to tell,” she said.

“Behind me and to the right was a large screen displaying a graph of border crossings under my leadership. The numbers were absolutely astounding. To view the graph, I began to turn, like this, to my right, and was ready to begin one more turn, which I was lucky I didn’t make, when I heard a loud hissing sound and felt something hit me, very, very hard, in my right ear,” he said.

“I said to myself, ‘Wow, what was that? It could only be a bullet,’ and I moved my right hand up to my ear, pulled it down, and my hand was covered in blood. There was absolutely blood all over the place. I immediately knew it was very serious, that we were under attack, and in one motion I proceeded to throw myself to the ground,” he added.

The president explained why he decided to raise his fist when security agents lifted him off the ground, an image that for his followers and the entire world signifies a gesture of anger and determination at the same time.

“When I stood up, surrounded by Secret Service, the crowd was confused because they thought I was dead, and there was great, great sadness. I could see it in their faces. I wanted to let them know I was OK. So I raised my right arm, looked out at the thousands and thousands of people waiting breathlessly, and started yelling ‘fight, fight, fight,'” he said.

Trump gave a speech lasting more than 90 minutes, in which he paid tribute to the firefighter who died during the attack.
