Donald Trump appeared at the Republican National Convention on Monday with a bandage over his right ear, greeted by a crowd of cheering supporters following the attempt on his life on Saturday.
The former president entered the convention in Milwaukee serene, with his fist raised and to the sound of a live rendition of “God Bless the USA.”
Many of his followers cheered him with tears in their eyes, and during the event where was confirmed as the Republican candidate He was also excited about the November elections, thanking everyone.
He greeted key political allies at the meeting. He was accompanied by members of his family, including three of his children, but his wife Melania was not present.
The assassination of Trump has apparently given him a significant political boost that he is taking advantage of.
At the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, the former president listened to nearly an hour of speeches while sitting next to his running mate and vice presidential candidate, Ohio Senator JD Vance.
Trump made the announcement that Vance would be on the November ballot just hours before the start of the convention. He also had Cuban-American Marco Rubio among his prospects.
Republican supporters and delegates had been waiting for hours for the former president’s appearance, which was not officially scheduled for the first day of the convention.
Joe Biden, meanwhile, has also returned to the campaign trail following the assassination of his predecessor, and is expected to pursue a strategy that focuses on policies rather than personality to confront Trump.
Ahead of public events in Nevada on Tuesday, Biden unveiled new actions to reduce housing costs, including a plan to cap rents charged by certain landlords.
Officials say the measures are intended to ease a significant financial burden for millions of voters; and many agree they will also allow Biden to sell voters on the substance of his proposals, rather than attacking the Republican businessman’s morals and pugnacious personality.
