The United States Library of Congressthrough the National Recording Registrylists 25 culturally important works each year with the aim of being preserved for posterity.
This exercise allows us to immortalize the musicians who changed the history of humanity through their art, since the political, social and aesthetic impact of their creations is taken into account.
In the list we can find, for example, the classic Kind Of Blue of Miles Davis and the contemporary Daydream Nation of Sonic Youth. However, themes from films are also listed, such as the soundtrack of Star Wars of John Williams or the baseball anthem Take Me Out To The Ball Game.
In general, after taking a dive to review the list, it seems to us that the recordings included there do represent eras, social movements, cultural waves and political discourses of different generations. How much could we talk about the society that listened to and popularized Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band of The Beatles o Illmatic of Nas? Surely a lot.
Just a few days ago the series of songs that will be included in the National Recording Registry in this 2023. The recent additions seemed extremely interesting to us since the social value of reggaeton and video game music is finally recognized.
We are talking about Gasoline of Daddy Yankee and the song of Super Mario of Koji Kondotwo themes that had been somewhat relegated from history by the United States, but which were now revalued in the midst of a great moment of exposure (remember the recent tour Legendaddy and the premiere of the movie about the nicest plumber in the world).
Listen to the new chapter of Tutti Frutti Podcast
In addition to those just mentioned, the National Recording Registry added more topics that we review and analyze in the new chapter of Tutti Frutti Podcast. We invite you to listen to it and also to stick to the list (which we leave HERE), so that they comment and tell us which songs they think are needed.
Let’s hope you enjoy it! We read soon ?
