• A Twilight reboot series is in development at Lionsgate Television, with writer Stephenie Meyer involved.
  • The series does not yet have a screenwriter or broadcaster, but it should take over the main characters of the saga: Bella, Edward and Jacob.
  • This reboot is part of the trend of television adaptations of successful literary sagas of the 2000s, such as Harry Potter or Percy Jackson.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, a Twilight reboot series is in development at Lionsgate Television, the studio that owns the rights to the franchise. The Twilight saga, which has had phenomenal success in the cinema with the adaptations of the novels by Stephenie Meyer, will therefore soon return… this time probably on streaming platforms.

In detail, the series does not yet officially have a screenwriter or broadcaster, but the project is already in advanced discussions with several platforms, the list of which has not been communicated. To give pledges to the project, Stephenie Meyer, the author of the books, will be directly involved in this new adaptation, which should take up the emblematic characters of the Bella Swan saga, Edward Cullen and Jacob Black.

Twilight is about to become a series

For those who don’t know the story: Twilight tells the romance between a human and a vampire in the small town of Forks in Washington State. The literary saga consists of four volumes, brought to the screen in four films released between 2008 and 2012. The cast included, among others, actors Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner in the main roles.

The films grossed over $3 billion at the global box office and launched the careers of all three actors. Again, we do not know if it is the same troupe who will take on the same roles in the series. But this is of course not excluded, although it is impossible to say for sure at this stage.

This reboot comes at a time when other successful literary sagas of the 2000s will also be entitled to a second youth in the form of series – you know, this genre which is gradually supplanting the good old cinema… It’s among others the case of Harry Potter, which we also know that a series should arrive soon on HBO Max, or even Percy Jackson, which will be adapted into a series on Disney +.

For their part, Twilight fans seem rather torn between excitement and awe – after all, it all depends on how the project will be carried out. The series genre makes it possible to further develop certain details that are absent in the films. But in some cases, such as the recent half-hearted adaptation of The Adams Family (Wednesday), disappointment was there for many fans.

Some therefore hope to rediscover the atmosphere and charm of the books and films, while others fear a disappointment or a betrayal of the original work. Anyway, we will have to wait a little longer before discovering this new version of the vampires and werewolves who marked an entire generation. We should learn more in the coming weeks.
