Two Cubans who had only been living in the United States for a year are arrested in the Florida Keys accused of bringing immigrants from Cuba

Oreste González, 33, and Roberto Moreno, 19, were arrested Wednesday in Marathon.

Both were charged with 23 counts of smuggling, police said.

According to authorities, an arrest warrant was obtained following an incident on July 21.

That’s when a boat with 23 Cuban immigrants ran out of gas near Marathon, and both González and Moreno were on board, police said.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said the boat was known to be a suspected smuggling vessel from previous incidents and interactions with police.

Both men were jailed, police said.
