Farmville, VA.- One of the men arrested in connection with the murder of Wake County Sheriff Ned Byrd has escaped from jail.

The Prince Edward County Sheriff’s Office in Farmville, Virginia, announced Monday morning that two people had escaped from the jail in their area. One of the fugitives was identified as Alder Marin-Sotelo.

Alder and his brother Arturo were indicted on murder charges in the August 2022 killing of Officer Ned Byrd, who was shot three times in the head and once in the chest while checking for suspicious activity on Battle Bridge Road near Auburn Knightdale Road.

Alder and Arturo have pleaded not guilty to the charges. The second of them, who is the alleged shooter in the case, remains housed in the Wake County, North Carolina jail.

The Prince Edward County Sheriff’s Office did not release any details about how Alder or the other unidentified man escaped from jail.

The law enforcement agency told anyone who saw either of the men to call 911 immediately.
