The inhabitants of the vicinity of the Kajovka dam have been living nightmares since last Tuesday it was attacked and the water flooded the surrounding areas, destroying everything in its path. Since then, Moscow and kyiv have not stopped accusing each other of responsibility for blowing up the dam. This Friday, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has published a recording that would prove the responsibility of Russia.

The audios published by the SBU consist of a conversation between two Russian soldiers in which they claim to be aware of the presence of a “sabotage group” Russian who blew up the Kajovka dam “to scare” the Ukrainians and acknowledge that the consequences were more serious than anticipated.

“It was not them (the Ukrainians) who attacked the dam. It was our sabotage group. They wanted to scare with this maneuver. It didn’t go as planned, it was more serious than they had planned», says a Russian soldier.

In the recording, the protagonists also described the consequences of the catastrophesuch as rising water levels, flooded territories and destruction.

“By blowing up the dam of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station, Russia has shown itself to be a threat to the entire civilized world. Only a true terrorist state can cause a technological and environmental disaster of such magnitude. He will certainly be held accountable for this, both on the battlefield and in international courts,” SSU chief Vasyl Maliuk stressed.

The European Union speaks

Hours after the publication of the recording, the top diplomatic officer of the European Union, Josep Borrell, has assured that “everything seems to indicate” that the russians destroyed the kakhovka dam.

“It has not been bombed. She has been destroyed with explosives installed inside the chambers Where are the turbines? This part is under Russian control”, Borrell explained to TVE.

And he added: “Obviously I was not there to find out who did it, but everything seems to indicate that it was where Russia has control, it could hardly have been someone else«.

“In any case, the consequences for Ukraine are dire from every point of view: humanitarian, for displaced people, and because of the ecological damage that it will cause”, added Josep Borrell.
