19 dead in Russian attacks in Kherson region

7:31 p.m.: According to official sources, at least 19 people were killed by Russian shelling in the southern Ukrainian region of Cherson. At least twelve people died in the regional capital of Cherson alone, the prosecutor said. 47 others were injured. Three electricians died north of the city and another civilian north-east from Russian fire. In the city of Kherson, a hardware store and the train station apparently came under fire.

Russia has carried out “massive” attacks against civilians in the region. According to the railway, a carriage of the train to Lviv was also hit and a conductor was injured. At the time, the passengers were in a protective cellar. Five other towns in the area were shelled, the military governor of the area, Olexander Prokudin, told Telegram on Wednesday. He had previously announced an almost three-day curfew in Kherson for the coming weekend.

Russia had occupied large parts of the Cherson region for several months. Last November, Russian troops retreated south-east across the Dnipro River. The Dnipro is currently the front line.

Medvedev calls for the murder of Zelenskyj

6:34 p.m.: Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has called for the “physical elimination” of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in response to the alleged Ukrainian drone attack on the Kremlin and President Vladimir Putin in return. “After today’s act of terrorism, there is no other option than the physical elimination of Zelenskyy and his clique,” Medvedev wrote on Telegram on Wednesday. For months, the ex-president of Russia has been making waves with wild posts on the platform.

In his eyes, Zelenskyy “is not needed to sign the capitulation of Ukraine,” Medvedev continued. “As is well known, Hitler did not sign any (surrender) either.” There will certainly be a deputy in the Ukraine like Hitler’s brief successor, Admiral Karl Dönitz.

According to the Russian account, an alleged drone attack on the Kremlin was repelled on Wednesday night. Moscow described this as an “assassination attempt” on Putin. The state leadership in Kiev rejects any responsibility.

Blinken: Unable to confirm Ukrainian involvement in Kremlin attack

5:01 p.m.: The US cannot confirm Russia’s accusation that Ukraine tried to attack the Kremlin and President Vladimir Putin. “We just don’t know,” US Secretary of State Antony Blinken told the Washington Post.

Asked if the US would criticize Ukraine if it decided to retaliate on Russian territory, Blinken replied that those were decisions Ukraine had to make. The United States is confident that Ukraine will be able to recapture more of its own territories. The war in Ukraine is already a strategic failure for Russia.

Ukraine: Nothing to do with Kremlin attack

3:05 p.m: Ukraine has denied Russia’s accusation that it tried to attack the Kremlin in Moscow and assassinate President Vladimir Putin. Ukraine has nothing to do with this, said Mykhailo Podoliak, adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The 51-year-old wrote on Twitter: “Why? That doesn’t solve a military problem.”

Such an approach would not benefit Ukraine on the battlefield and would only provoke Russia to take “more radical measures”. Russia’s statement could indicate that it is preparing to launch a major “terrorist” attack on Ukraine in the coming days.
