kyiv, May 7 Ukrainian intelligence warned today of “possible provocations” by Russia on May 9, which will commemorate the anniversary of the capitulation of the Third Reich or the so-called Victory Day over the Nazi army.

“The aggressor state chooses symbolic dates for its provocations. The Russian special services can prepare them for May 9 on the territory of the Russian Federation and Belarus,” said the spokesman for the intelligence service of the Defense Ministry, Andrii Yusov, told through the Ukrinform portal.

The representative of Ukrainian military intelligence adds that since 2014, the year Russia annexed the Crimean peninsula, Moscow has been using this strategy around the day the defeat of the Third Reich is commemorated.

“The provocations of the Russian special services can be directed against the Russian civilian population on designated dates, such as May 9,” Yusov continues.

The Capitulation of the Third Reich was signed in Karlshorst, outside Berlin, on the night of May 8-9, 1945, a few days after the suicide in their bunker of Adolf Hitler and his wife, Eva Braun, on April 30.

While in Germany that anniversary is commemorated on the 8th, as “liberation day”, in Russia the victory over the Nazi army is celebrated the following day, on May 9. EFE
