Washington.- Investigative journalist Seymour Hersh accused the United States of being behind the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipeline explosions.

Through an article published on his blog, Hersh explained the mission that was carried out by Navy divers and consisted of planting explosives in June of last year, which were remotely detonated three months later.

Hersh is a former New York Times and New Yorker reporter who has won numerous awards for his investigative reporting, including on the Vietnam War and the 2004 Abu Ghraib scandal following the US invasion of Iraq.

The pipelines are multibillion-dollar infrastructure projects designed to transport Russian gas to Germany under the Baltic Sea.

Sweden and Denmark, in whose exclusive economic zones the explosions took place, have concluded that they were blown up deliberately, but have not said who might be responsible.

Hersh said in his article that US President Joe Biden saw pipelines as a way for Russia to “use natural gas as a weapon of war for its political and territorial interests.” He added that the gas pipeline known as Nord Stream 1 has always been seen by Washington and other NATO countries as a threat to Western domination.

“This is totally false and complete fiction,” said Adrienne Watson, a spokeswoman for the White House National Security Council. Spokesmen for the CIA and the State Department pointed out the same thing.

Construction of Nord Stream 2, designed to double the volume of gas Russia could send directly to Germany under the sea, was completed in September 2021 but never got underway after Berlin filed the certification just days before it Moscow will send its troops to Ukraine last February.

In his article, Seymour Hersh summarizes the tensions caused by the pipelines, which even reached Congress when Senator Ted Cruz raised concerns about the “cheap price” supply of Russian natural gas.

In addition, it details the planning of the maneuver, which according to its sources, began two months before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, in December 2021, and was initially planned by the national security adviser, Jake Sullivan, under orders from the President. Biden.

Statements by the President are also taken up where, when questioned about the plans for Nord Stream 2 and the invasion of Ukraine, he said that in the event that Russian troops and tanks crossed the Ukrainian border, they would put an end to the gas pipeline, since “they knew how to do it”.
