US authorities acknowledge an increase in immigration from Central America

The spokesman for the United States Department of Security, Luis Miranda, who asked the population not to expose themselves to human traffickers, acknowledged that the irregular migratory flow from Central America, especially from Guatemala and Honduras, to the United States has increased in recent months.

The Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Communications of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) pointed out that the United States is making several weekly flights with deported immigrants throughout Central America, due to the fact that in the last three months there has been an increase in migration from Honduras and from Guatemala.

Miranda stated that in the last two months around 30,000 people have arrived at the US border, 60% of them did so in family groups, which reflects that criminal organizations are seeking to take advantage of immigrants.

The DHS spokesman stressed the importance of reducing the flow of immigrants trying to reach the United States illegally, and regretted that many of them are “believing the lies of criminals, smugglers, coyotes“.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reported last week that the arrests of migrants crossing the southern border of the United States irregularly increased in July after months of decline. Blas Núñez Neto, undersecretary of border policy, assured that the increase was not unexpected because it is the time of the year in which generally “you see an increase in migration.”

Undersecretary Núñez did not give figures on the number of arrests last month. According to the US media, this week more than 130,000 people were arrested on the border with Mexico.

So these figures represent an increase of more than 30% compared to June, where 99,545 arrests were recorded. Despite the July increase in the number of people seeking to cross into the US, Núñez defended the new border policy, assuring that they “continue to be effective.”.

The authorities of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reported in June that arrests at the southern border of the United States decreased, compared to the same period in 2021. Border officials had 144,571 encounters with migrants at the border during the month of June, which represents a 43% decrease when compared to the encounters in May with a total of 206,702.
