In the case of the recently uncovered data leak of US intelligence documents, the exact motive of the suspect is still unclear, despite the inspection of thousands of his Internet posts. The “New York Times” reported on Saturday, citing several thousand posts that Jack Teixeira posted in an Internet chat room, that many questions about the young man’s motives are still unanswered.

However, the news offers an insight into the mindset of the military employee. “He seems to have seen himself in some ways as an insider newsletter writer meant to enlighten his online friends — rather than a whistleblower planning a major leak of government secrets,” the paper wrote.

According to the newspaper’s research, Teixeira spread various conspiracy theories and claimed, for example, that US authorities were involved in staging rampages in order to influence the debate on gun laws.

Pictures and posts from the chat room once again prove the love of guns that has already been handed down to the early 20-year-old. Among other things, he published pictures of his weapons and reflected on large shootings in the country. “I think analyzing killing sprees is cool. And it’s fun,” the newspaper quoted one of its messages as saying.

Teixeira is suspected of having published highly confidential documents from the US secret services and the Department of Defense in a closed chat room. From there they are said to have spread further until authorities and the media became aware of them.

The classified information contained, for example, information on the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, but also details on alleged US spying operations against partners.

The FBI arrested Teixeira in mid-April. The National Guard’s IT specialist is charged with unauthorized removal, storage and transmission of classified and national defense information. (dpa)
