It is the mechanical engineer, Professor Nourredine Boubekri, the founder, the director and the principal researcher, who will lead the center. Dr. Boubekri estimates that more than 3,000 businesses in the Dallas and Fort Worth area could benefit from the program for free. Similarly, according to a letter he sent to our editorial staff, the professor considers that his project fits “perfectly” to the manufacturing industry in Algeria.

In addition, Mr. Boubekri said that the IAC will promote partnerships between UNT and companies in the industrial sector to provide students with experiences in energy efficiency and adaptation of smart technologies. The center has already received a $1.75 million grant.

What is the Professor’s Industrial Assessment Center Boubekri?

Industrial Assessment Centers (IACs) are part of a US national program. There are 37 throughout the United States. The mission of Dr. Boubekri’s IAC is to help small and medium-sized enterprises in the manufacturing sector by the following actions:

  • Perform free on-site assessments, including on technologies and processes to increase energy efficiency, maximize productivity, reduce waste and prevent pollution;
  • Train engineering students with professional skills and solid experience in energy efficiency and resource use;
  • Provide outreach and education opportunities to non-participating SMEs.

Moreover, the UNT Industrial Assessment Center has a double advantage, for industry as well as for students.

On the one hand, it enables companies to carry out significant savings; it’s a valuable tool for any industrial manufacturing site looking to stay competitive in today’s market. On the other hand, IAC provides its students with hands-on training in energy, productivity, and waste assessment techniques. As a result, they gain a competitive advantage in the labor market, benefit from a high placement rate and fulfilling careers in these fields.
