Validity of tags that expire in July are extended

The secretary of the Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTOP), Eileen Vélez Vega, announced on Monday the extension of validity of the tags that expired today, due to problems with the AutoExpreso system.

“Any citizen who has not been able to renew their tag with an expiration date as of today, will still be able to renew it until August 31, 2023,” the secretary explained in written statements.

The official added that “our goal is that each citizen can carry out their procedures quickly and in the time provided by law, but the inconveniences reported by AutoExpreso that are beyond our control, we considered it prudent to make the necessary adjustments.”

The extension was authorized by resolution Number 2023-15, signed by the secretary, and comes into force immediately. The extension also affects the coverage of the ACAA and Compulsory Insurance.

“Any person whose tag renewal corresponds to today, will have until August 31 of the current year to carry out the renewal process without exposing themselves to any penalty,” said Vélez Vega.

The head of the DTOP emphasized that this measure allows that, in the event of an accident, the people affected are not deprived of the services that the agency provides.
