Duisburg-Hochfeld.
Line 903 trams were again fired at with firecrackers and rockets in Hochfeld. The trains no longer run through the district.

Unknown persons attacked the 903 line again on Friday evening with firecrackers and New Year’s Eve rockets. As early as Thursday, there were “several incidents” at the Pauluskirche stop in Hochfeld, as the Duisburger Verkehrsgesellschaft (DVG) confirmed on request. The trains were diverted for several hours, and on Friday the DVG was forced to separate the line “until further notice”.

According to DVG spokesman Thomas Kehler, the perpetrators “opened the doors of trains on line 903 and threw firecrackers into the trains” between around 6:15 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.” They also fired at trains with rockets. Nobody was injured in the process. The trains are still operational.

DVG redirects trains and “strongly condemns the attacks”

The DVG had reacted to the attacks and diverted the trains of the 903 from 7.30 p.m. between the Platanenhof and Fischerstraße stops. They then drove via Düsseldorfer Strasse, Grunewald and Kulturstrasse. This eliminated the stops at Brückenplatz, Siechenhausstraße, Pauluskirche, Marienhospital and Hochfeld Süd Bahnhof. The detour was lifted at 9:30 p.m.

“The DVG strongly condemns the attacks on the 903 line,” says Thomas Kehler. Such attacks would endanger drivers and passengers. If necessary, the DVG will also take measures to protect staff and passengers on New Year’s Eve.

The Duisburg police are aware of the incidents from Thursday evening. According to spokeswoman Jacqueline Grahl, the police were alerted that the young rioters ran away in different directions when they saw the patrol cars. The police department takes information about the young people on 0203 280 0.

According to the DVG, there was another “targeted fire on vehicles and people with pyrotechnics” on Friday. The municipal transport company reacted to this vandalism by no longer allowing the 903 trams to run via Wanheimer Straße, but diverted them via Bocksbarttrasse, Düsseldorfer Straße and Kulturstraße – this regulation was still in force late Friday evening.

In order to prevent new attacks of this kind, the police should be more active on New Year’s Eve – especially in places such as Hochfeld, Meiderich train station and Hamborner Altmarkt, where police operations have been frequent in previous years. (with ok)
