A total damage of around 1.8 billion euros was caused, the tax damage was a good 390 million euros. The reason for this is around 5.9 million people who watched live TV signals from classic TV channels illegally. Compared to 2018, the number of these users has almost doubled. Users between the ages of 24 and 33 are considered to be the biggest beneficiaries, but the user group between the ages of 24 and 63 is anything but uninvolved. 80% of those users are male.

  • 72% watch illegal live TV streams at least once a week
  • Apps like Rokkr, Watched and Co. are used very often.
  • Fire TV sticks, Chromecast or streaming boxes with Kodi on it are often used as playback devices

In its study (online survey) also that allegedly 45% of illegal viewers would be willing to pay for legal offers if no more illegal offers were available. Politicians are therefore asked to seek solutions against the offering of such illegal streams and offers and to initiate proceedings if operators can be found.
