The German Museum of Technology in Berlin takes over the historically important vehicle collection of the Berlin Transport Company (BVG). Among the 32 vehicles are 14 buses, eleven trams and seven subway cars, the museum announced on Thursday in Berlin.

The oldest vehicle, a double-decker horse-drawn tram from 1865, is therefore almost 160 years old. It is the oldest preserved tram car in Europe. It became a museum piece as early as 1890.

According to the museum, other highlights of the BVG collection are the famous Berlin “double-decker snout buses” from the pre-war period and subway cars of series A, B and C, built between 1908 and 1930. Parts of the collection are to be permanently public this year be made accessible. (epd)
