Victims of Southwest Philadelphia Mass Shooting Identified

Five people were killed and two others injured in a shooting Thursday night southwest of Philadelphia.

The bloodshed occurred in the 1600 block of South 56th Street and spread to other parts of that same neighborhood.

Philadelphia police said they managed to apprehend the gunman dressed in a protective vest, as well as a shipment of weapons that included an AR-15 rifle.

Early Tuesday, the Fourth of July holiday, authorities identified the victims of the shooting. These are:

  • Lashyd Merritt, 20, of Greenway Avenue, sustained multiple bullet wounds to the chest and arm.
  • Dymir Stanton, 29, of South Frazier Street, was shot in the chest and back.
  • Ralph Moralis, 59, of South 56th St., was shot in the head and buttocks.
  • Daujan Brown, 15, sustained shots to the shoulder, chest and back.
  • Joseph Wamah, Jr., 31, of South 56th St., sustained gunshot wounds to multiple parts of the body.

The people who sustained injuries from the explosion of glass in the area were identified as:

  • A 33 year old woman
  • A two-year-old male minor

A 40-year-old man was arrested with a shipment of weapons and bulletproof vests in Philadelphia. Miguel Martínez Valle with the report.
