The Texas white-tailed deer, Odocoileus virginianus texana, is found throughout most of the state.
Today it is the most numerous big game animal in Texas and in the United States. Texas has more whitetail deer than any other state.
Population estimates in recent years range from three to four million. It is estimated that Texas sportsmen catch between 430,000 and 500,000 whitetails annually, more than any other state.
