The actor denounces the distorted image of masculinity sold by Hollywood action films. He hopes with his new series Connection show the realistic image of a man of action.

Vincent Cassel was strongly criticized on Friday on social networks after statements deemed misogynistic reported by the British daily The Guardian. Interviewed on the occasion of the release of the Apple TV+ series Connectionthe French comedian said: “If men become too vulnerable and too feminine, I think there is going to be a problem.”

In the interview, he denounces the distorted image of masculinity sold by Hollywood action films.

“Look what’s going on. Instagram and TikTok are full of people giving false images. Men should be like this, women should be like this. See? It’s an absolute fantasy of what sexuality should be like.”

“It’s almost shameful to be a man”

And to add: “We tend to forget the bottom line. We have to be ourselves.” And Vincent Cassel continues on the masculinist influencer Andrew Tate, detained in Romania as part of a pimping case:

“He says a lot of things that sound really problematic, especially when you see where he’s coming from, but in the middle of it all he says things that are actually interesting, because he wants to stand up for masculinity.”

“It’s almost shameful to be a man these days,” he continues. “You have to be more feminine, more vulnerable. But look, if men become too vulnerable and too feminine, I think there’s going to be a problem.”

Isn’t he condoning misogyny with these remarks? “I mean, I hope not to be misogynistic”, concludes Vincent Cassel. “I am surrounded by women from morning to night, because I have three daughters, a wife, an ex-wife and a mother.”
