Vodafone Germany is apparently on the verge of announcing far-reaching austerity measures, to which loud a report by RP Online a wave of layoffs will also count. 10% of the workforce will probably have to go. That could therefore correspond to 1,600 employees. Vodafone has not denied the reports, but generally pointed out that they have been optimizing the company’s cost structure for months.

However, there are no final plans yet. According to Vodafone, it is important to always find “socially acceptable” solutions for its employees. Why the austerity course? The company is currently less successful than hoped in the acquired cable business and in the mobile communications sector. The rivalries among the providers are growing.

It is said that savings are made even with “little things” such as pens. Business trips are only permitted with the approval of management, and recruitment has been reduced. Vodafone is probably under pressure, especially in the segment for business customers, where the telecom poached many customers – also through massive investments in 5G. Telekom generates higher sales, especially with contract customers, and has polished its image. Vodafone wants to present itself as a gigabit company, but primarily refers to its cable network, while Telekom is pushing fiber optics.

Vodafone is extremely lagging behind. In the end, Vodafone’s cable growth hopes have apparently not been fulfilled so far and the company is increasingly coming under pressure from the fiber optic expansion of the competition.
