Wall Street opens higher despite high US bond rates

One hour after the opening, the Dow Jones gained 0.19%, the technological Nasdaq 0.12% and the S&P 500 a marginal 0.05%.

“Bond rates continue to rise,” noted Peter Cardillo of Spartan Capital. “The fear that the Federal Reserve will not lower its rates this year is consolidated,” he added.

The yield on 10-year Treasury notes reached 4.46% this Monday, a level not seen since late November. High rates are indicators of more expensive credit, and have a negative impact on the stock market, made up of companies that require loans for their development.

The New York Stock Exchange ended higher on Friday after an employment report that showed a healthy labor market in the United States in March.

The Dow Jones gained 0.80%, the technology Nasdaq 1.24% and the expanded S&P 500 index 1.11%.
