MDespite the work to repair the energy infrastructure badly damaged by the Russian attacks, approximately nine million people are still without electricity in Ukraine. “But the number and duration of power cuts are constantly decreasing,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky nuanced in his daily video address Monday evening.
He also said that important decisions were made during consultations with government officials regarding the energy situation and infrastructure. “We are preparing for next year, and not just for the winter months,” he said. “There are steps that need to be taken and the state will definitely take them,” he said without adding details.

President Zelensky further warned that Moscow could attack Ukraine’s energy network again. “Air defense is preparing, the state is preparing, and everyone must prepare,” he said.
For weeks, the Russians, who invaded Ukraine in late February, have been targeting the Ukrainian power grid with missiles and drones, causing major power cuts. Moscow is thus seeking to put pressure on the population during the winter months.
