The Ukrainian president was in Italy on Saturday to meet Pope Francis and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. This Sunday, he should meet the German Chancellor and President.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced overnight from Saturday to Sunday that he had arrived in Berlin from Rome for his first visit to Germany since the outbreak of the Russian invasion.

“Already in Berlin,” he said on his Twitter account.

The president adds that his visit must be devoted to a “very important package” of arms deliveries to his country, in particular “anti-aircraft defense systems”, as well as to the “reconstruction” of Ukraine.

The German government announced on Saturday that it is preparing a new plan for arms deliveries to Ukraine worth 2.7 billion euros. It includes in particular 30 Leopard 1 tanks, numerous armored vehicles, drones, anti-aircraft defense systems, missiles and ammunition.

Zelensky is to receive the Charlemagne Prize

The detailed program of the visit of the Ukrainian head of state has not yet been officially confirmed. But according to several German media, he must meet in the morning in particular with Chancellor Olaf Scholz and German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

In the afternoon, he must go to Aix-la-Chapelle to receive the Charlemagne Prize, which each year rewards a personality for his contribution to European unification.

On Saturday, Volodymyr Zelensky traveled to Italy to meet Pope Francis and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at the Vatican.
