More than 534,000 establishments in the food sector Commerce, Services and Tourism located on the northern border are seriously affected by the uncontrolled arrival of migrants, so it is urgent that the federal government take immediate action.

This was warned by Héctor Tejada Shaar, president of the Confederation of National Chambers of Commerce, Services and Tourism (Concanaco-Servytur), after affirming that the border cities They do not have the necessary preparation to receive these groups, much less to face their demands.

“We urge the authorities to take action promptly and with determination to face this immigration crisis, ensuring the safety and quality of life of all citizens,” called the president of the top organization.

The business chambers of the border areas denounced inappropriate conduct ranging from invasion, damage to public and private spaces, such as vandalism in commercial corridors, disturbance of public order, confrontations with the authorities, robberies, assaults, sexual harassment of women and an imminent risk to public health due to the lack of vaccines and immunizations, he exposed.

Faced with this problem, the President of the Confederation requested the direct intervention of the Ministry of the Interior (Segob) and local and state authorities to establish concrete measures to restore order and tranquility in our border cities.

“It is essential to develop an adequate public policy that effectively addresses the immigration situation,” he said.

“We are willing to collaborate in close coordination with all instances and levels of government to help control this situation and provide certainty to our communities,” explained the president of the top organization.

In 2022, according to information from Segob itself, 444,439 events of people in an irregular situation in Mexico, 43.5% more than in 2021. Between 2021 and 2020 the number of events involving people in an irregular situation increased 275.9 percent.

These figures are worrying, so that the massive and uncontrolled arrival of migrants to border cities “generates a significant social risk and exerts excessive pressure on our communities, due to the high demand for care and basic services,” warned Tejada Shaar. .
