In the meantime, Waze continues on its merry way. Its development is far from being at a standstill: the proof with the discovery of an experimental feature, currently being tested, which aims to warn motorists if their journey contains roads considered to be accident-prone. The option is based on feedback from the field – reports reported by the community, in short. If a certain threshold is reached for a given road, then its route will turn red — which can give the impression that it is hit by a heavy traffic jam. The precision of the tool depends on the alerts received, but also on their temporality.
In order to take into account the evolution of the road system (for example if measures have been taken to improve road safety at such and such a place), it is assumed that the option will refrain from displaying a portion of the journey on the road if there hasn’t been a certain volume of reports for a while. This will allow for planning progress to be taken into account.
