HBO Max has officially greenlit the making of Welcome to Derry, prequel series of IT, one of Stephen King’s most important and well-known novels. The show will expand on Andy Muschietti’s iteration of the novel brought to the big screen with two films, one focusing on the protagonists as young people and the other on their adult versions. The director will always be directing some episodes of the series, including the first two.

I’m thrilled that the story of Derry, Maine’s scariest city, can continue and that Andy Muschietti will always be overseeing it. And I’m glad that his talented sister, Barbara, is also a part of the project. Lots of red balloons coming.

This is Stephen King’s comment regarding the announcement of the series. At the moment there are still no details on the casting and the possible launch window, but Welcome to Derry is supposed to be set in the 1960s, exploring the origins of the evil that has terrorized the town in Maine. A younger version of Pennywise, played on the big screen by Bill Skarsgård, will also likely appear. They will take care of the script for the series Brad Caleb Kane And Jason Fuchs.

Andy Muschetti has adapted the Stephen King novel into two films, IT And EN – Chapter Two, which collectively grossed over $700 million at the global box office. By redefining and transcending the genre, IT has become part of our collective imagination, as well as the highest grossing horror film of all time. Because every 27 years evil returns to the town of Derry.
