After the deadly shot at camerawoman Halyna Hutchins, shooting for the film “Rust”, which was stopped in autumn 2021, is to be continued this spring.
In addition to director Joel Souza, Alec Baldwin will also be back as a producer and actor, the production team announced yesterday. Cinematographer’s widower Matthew Hutchins joins as executive producer. Cinematographer Bianca Cline has been hired by Hutchins to “complete Halyna’s vision” for the western, according to the release.
Alec Baldwin denies the blame
Chief cinematographer Hutchins was fatally injured at a film ranch in Santa Fe, New Mexico, in October 2021. Baldwin wielded a gun in rehearsal for a scenewhen a shot was fired. Director Souza was hit in the shoulder by the projectile and injured in the incident. Investigations revealed that the Colt had a real bullet lodged in it. Baldwin always denied any responsibility for the fatal incident.
Hollywood star and gunslinger Hannah Gutierrez-Reed must answer in court. Prosecutors in New Mexico filed involuntary manslaughter charges against both in January. Several civil lawsuits are also pending in the case.
Working firearms prohibited on set
With the completion of the film, director Souza said he wanted to honor Halyna’s work and make her proud. He is grateful for the involvement of former “Rust” employees and for new teammates. Among other things, two safety officers appointed. Working firearms and ammunition are not allowed on set, it said. Nothing was initially known about the filming location.
