What have been the consequences of the buoys in the Rio Grande that Texas installed against immigrants (podcast)

At the beginning of July, the government of Republican Greg Abbott, in Texas, began the installation of buoys and barbed wires on the Rio Grandein order to prevent or complicate the crossing of immigrants.

On July 17, the Houston Chronicle reported the first demonstrable consequences, as it released the email revealed by a military medic, asking officers to return the immigrants to the river and deny them water.

The report also notes that a pregnant woman got stuck in the buoys and miscarried suddenly.

In another case, a girl collapsed after officers returned a group of children and adults amid one of the recent heat waves.

A woman was going with her two children, but they remained in the water, where she died and another of the children died later, the reports say.

The Government of President Joe Biden has criticized Abbott’s actions, which are part of Operation Lone Star, in which he has invested millions of dollars.

Faced with Abbott’s refusal to remove the buoys, on July 24, the Biden Administration filed a complaint.
