The average price of new cars in Brazil already exceeds R$ 140,000. According to a survey carried out by the consultancy JATO Dynamics, the average value of a brand new vehicle in the country is R$ 141,487.61, up 90% in the last five years.

According to the publication of colleagues from Auto Esporte, in the last year, the increase in the average price of a brand new car was 7.7%, well above annual inflation in Brazil, which was 5.8% in 2022, according to figures from the Federal Government.

The JATO study also reveals that the reasons why these increases occurred can be credited to the covid-19 pandemic, which completely changed the world macroeconomic scenario, and also to the semiconductor crisis, vital for the production of vehicles.

It is also worth noting that factories in Brazil, belonging to different automakers, have suffered several stoppages over the last few years, largely due to the restrictive measures of the pandemic and, obviously, because of the lack of parts for production.

Currently, the cheapest car in Brazil is the Renault Kwid, which costs almost R$70,000. Five years ago, this model cost almost half that in its entry-level version. The increases, of course, were felt in all categories. Cars that cost the same as the average price, that is, R$ 140,000, are compact SUVs or medium sedans that previously cost around R$ 80,000 in their basic versions.
