Uwe Mantel from the industry service dwdl.de was the first to notice: RBB television brought New Year’s Eve forward. Anyone tuning in to the program with the “most beautiful cult hits of the 1960s” late on Friday evening could/was allowed to experience how the program was suddenly interrupted by a countdown at 11:59 p.m. and 50 seconds. At midnight, moderator Janna Falkenstein reported: “Dear people in Berlin and Brandenburg or wherever you are watching us: Happy New, as we say here.” The program did not switch back to its intended schedule until around 12:45 a.m .

The following explanations suggest themselves: The crisis-ridden RBB wanted to finally put the “annus horribilis” 2022 behind it and get into the new year 2023 faster than the rest of humanity. Humanly understandable.

Whoever sat at the controls at RBB television couldn’t stand the “most beautiful cult hits of the 1960s” and wanted to change the program. The wrong buttons were pressed.

Or else: In the Berlin-Brandenburg radio station, the clocks simply tick differently in the confusion that seems to continue to prevail in the station.

Janna Falkenstein said: “We wish you a healthy and happy, an exciting, but not too exciting new year 2023.” We wish that too and the RBB employees in particular. As Heinz Rudolf Kunze sang so beautifully: “Yours is my whole heart”.
