15 years after the launch of WhatsApp

MIAMI.- WhatsApp, the popular instant messaging application, is working on the development of an update that will transform the video calling experience by incorporating augmented reality (AR) effects and filters, to make the user experience more interactive.

These effects and filters, which will be seen in the platform’s video call interface, will offer a facelift in order to modernize it, which will show the profile image larger and reproduce the image more clearly.

Users will be able to apply dynamic filters that soften and improve the appearance of skin, or use a low light mode that improves visibility in low light conditions. These tools not only increase image quality but will also add a touch of fun and creativity to conversations.

The new feature is currently in development and is expected to arrive in the application with the next WhatsApp update for Android (v2.24.13.14), as shared by the specialized portal WABetainfo.

Other updates to WhatsApp calls and video calls

Since its launch in 2009, the application has been constantly innovating its functions to improve the user experience, establishing itself as an essential tool for personal communication through text messages, voice and video calls, images and videos.

Among the improvements to its voice and video calling capabilities, the platform has implemented the function that allows users to make group video calls with up to 32 participants, ideal for family gatherings or group work conferences.

In addition, the Meta platform has recently added the possibility of creating profile photographs thanks to Artificial Intelligence (AI), after integrating the creation of WhatsApp from the app with this technology.

Soon, it will also be possible to use an avatar during a video call in real time, which will reproduce the user’s gestures and customize the background, with an image or by blurring the environment.

This feature is beneficial in allowing users to remain anonymous or express themselves creatively through avatars, ensuring privacy.

Likewise, WhatsApp is developing a tool to edit the background during calls, which will be particularly useful for group conferences where users will be able to personalize their environment or eliminate distractions. Finally, users will have the option to use an avatar instead of their streaming video.

The integration of AR into WhatsApp represents the evolution of the platform, a step that brings it even closer to the forefront of digital communication, with fun options in which updating is essential for its reach as the most popular messaging app.
