The return to a galaxy far, far away is already scheduled. The Mandalorian returns for its third season in 2023 and will be the first content of Star Wars coming this year. More than that, it will be the public’s long-awaited reunion with Mando (Pedro Pascal) and little Grogu since his brief appearance in The Book of Boba Fett — which means there’s a lot to come.
Even because the little we already know about the new episodes shows that we should have a slightly different story than the first seasons presented. While the initial adventures were much more focused on bonding and developing this single father’s relationship with his green baby, it seems that this phase of the relationship has been overcome and we should see the plot go down another path.
Furthermore, the expectation around The Mandalorian it is also given by the very fact that it has been a long time since we left these characters behind. Although Mando and Grogu appeared in the Boba Fett series last year, the last episode of the series dedicated to the duo was shown in 2020. It is a considerable wait and it is about to end.
The Return of The Mandalorian
If you can’t wait to get on this Lone wolf space, write down on your agenda: The Mandalorian returns for its third season on March 1. The date was confirmed by Lucasfilm during CCXP 2022 in December, putting an end to fan doubts and uncertainties.
As usual, episodes will be weekly and released every Wednesday on Disney+. In all, there will be eight chapters – which means that we will have news until April 19th.
The studio has already anticipated that the entire season was scripted by Jon Favreau, who also had the collaboration of Noah Kloot and Dave Filoni in some of the episodes. The direction will be shared between Bryce Dallas Howard, Rick Famuyiwa and even actor Carl Weathers, the eternal Apollo Creed of the series Rocky and that, in The Mandalorianlives Greef Karga.
What to expect from season three
Although Disney and Lucasfilm are being very economical with the promotion of the series, we already have a good idea of what is to come. The great highlight of the new season is the change of tone, leaving the relationship between Mando and Grogu a little aside to make the pair of protagonists more involved in the troubled history of the planet Mandalore.
A little of this has already been shown both at the end of the second season and in The Book of Boba Fett. After getting the Darksaber from Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito), Mando conquered a leadership that he didn’t want to assume: that of commanding the people of the planet. The problem is that there are some factions among the Mandalorians that want that power, like Bo-Katan (Katee Sackhoff).
We still don’t know if she will be a new antagonist or if she will keep her status as an ally, but this tension between the two characters has already been well defined in the second season of The Mandalorian and reinforced by the trailer.
Furthermore, Mando himself needs to delve deeper into the culture and mysteries of Mandalore to regain his honor. After taking off his iconic helmet a few times and being kicked out of his creed for doing so, he must embark on this near-suicidal pilgrimage to regain acceptance into his sect. And it must be from this that his path in the planet’s political bullshit will intensify.
