Dornbirn. The birth of your own child is an enormously emotional and strong moment for the mothers and fathers-to-be. While the focus in birth preparation courses is often on the expectant mothers, fathers are often left alone with their questions. For this reason, the fathers evenings start in the city hospital. Once a month, birth and child is all about the man.
Fathers are a great support for their partners during the birth, but also for the medical and nursing team, because they relieve them. In order to strengthen the men in their new role, the fathers-to-be have the opportunity to exchange ideas and clarify their questions at the new fathers’ evenings.
From dad to dad
Pregnancy is an exciting time for the whole family. “Having children” is no longer a woman’s job, because expectant fathers in the delivery room have been normal for almost 40 years. Men are actively involved in the “pregnancy – birth – postpartum” experience. They are usually present at check-ups, such as during birth preparation courses and the birth. The classic birth preparation courses are usually geared towards the needs of women. This is where the concept of the “Fathers’ Evening” comes in. Once a month, your very personal questions are the focus of attention in a relaxed and protected atmosphere. “Questions can be asked and possible uncertainties clarified without taboos and without prior notification,” emphasizes Sascha Schmidt, “from dads-to-be to dads in a group of men.”

From man to man
The head of the psychosocial service in the hospital runs the fathers’ evenings. “Society has high expectations of men. They should be brave, understanding, self-confident, upbeat and loving. So they too have to fulfill a wide variety of roles – from breadwinner to successful specialist to super-dad. We want to support the men here,” explains Sascha Schmidt. The experienced father is looking forward to his men’s group and would like to encourage: “Being a father is simply the greatest happiness.”“men among themselves”
Fathers’ evenings for expectant and existing fathers
Meeting point: small hall (EG32) in the former nursing home near the hospital
Beginning: each at 6:30 p.m
For all expectant or “new” fathers in the period from six weeks before the planned date of delivery to eight weeks after delivery.
